Mount Holyoke College Virtual Tour

The MHC Virtual Tour provides donors and prospective donors a sneak preview of the dramatic improvements to three campus facilities—science, art, and music—that were targeted as funding priorities in The Campaign for Mount Holyoke. The science and art buildings were rendered in 3D animation from architectural drawings to demonstrate what the facilities would look like upon completion; the music facility, because it was already completed, was digitally photographed to create a 360°, panoramic view.

Videotaped testimonials from faculty members, in addition to the College President, are also embedded within the tour so that viewers can hear directly from those most closely involved with the projects. Other features include a college overview promoting the institution’s key messages plus exterior and interior views; detailed, navigable floor plans; project descriptions; and gift opportunities for each facility.

Viewers are able to explore the facilities individually, at his/her own pace and level of interest.

The Campaign for Mount Holyoke

Mount Holyoke's uniqueness and distinction are integral to its history and mission as a college for women. As the oldest continuing women's college in the nation, Mount Holyoke believes in its obligation to honor and develop the tradition of women's education and women's leadership. In 1998, in order to ensure that objective, the Board of Trustees authorized an ambitious comprehensive fundraising campaign which sought to raise $200 million in gifts and pledges. A web site was developed to supplement existing campaign materials and create a vehicle for accurate and up-to-date information, as well as encourage on-line pledging.

Because of its distinctive position in higher education and its sense of history and tradition, it seemed natural to devote part of the site to its auspicious past. A timeline of achievements and landmark events encourages alums to appreciate their connection to this lauded institution and its importance to the future of women's education.

Mount Holyoke College

One of the preeminent liberal arts colleges for women, Mount Holyoke has been inspiring intelligent, influential women since its founding in 1837. In keeping with its rich tradition, the College wanted a web site that could demonstrate the breadth and diversity of its rigorous academic program, as well as showcase the beauty of its campus and historic architectural heritage. The College required a navigational system that was both informative and easy-to-use, and one that would invite applicants and the College community as a whole to access its vast informational network.

Given the complex nature of the College's academic and administrative structure, visual consistency was an important factor in creating a sense of unity and cohesion between a variety of departments and disciplines.

This site was awarded the prestigious "Grand Gold" from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 1997.
